Mindfulness in the Classroom?
How wonderful!! We are all optimistic if Mindfulness is headed toward the classrooms. An article in the New York Times, "In the classroom, a New Focus on Quieting the Mind" by reporter, Patricia Leigh Brown, reveals how schools are introducing mindfulness and shows student James Alexander at Piedmont Avenue Elementary in Oakland Calif. practicing a ‘mindful’ technique learned in his classroom.
Amy Cunningham writes more about mind-body and calming techniques at Chattering Mind and adds a few thoughts of her own on the New York Times article.
I found lots of links to people such as Jon Kabat-Zinn, a special mindfulness guru, so helpful with his stress reduction audio recordings during my bout with chemo. Today I use his yoga stretching tapes to keep me centered, grounded. focused and strong and to remind me how valuable this practice is in ‘raising my well-being and consciousness’.
Some people are more optimistic than others on how helpful mindfulness really is. It’s good to remember that we are all at different spiritual growth levels and awakening and raising our consciousness at any stage is valuable. At any level, however, you will be gracefully inspired if you take a few minutes at Abraham-Hicks.
